On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Dmitri D. Shostakovich's death, we begin our chamber concert series for the 2025/26 season in a thoughtful yet moving manner. Together with ensemble singer Penny Sofroniadou, the musicians will create a special evening that invites reflection. The composer Nikolai Roslavets, who is little known today, came under political scrutiny in the Soviet Union for his work – defamed as an »enemy of the people«, his music remained in the shadows for a long time. Arvo Pärt's arrangement of Mozart's Adagio builds a quiet, almost reverent bridge to Shostakovich's »7 Romances« based on texts by Aleksandr Blok, which, full of fear, love, and expectation, form a haunting conclusion to the concert.
