In early 16th-century Europe, Anne of Brittany (1477–1514) was a remarkable figure. As duchess, she not only preserved her homeland’s independence through skillful political maneuvering. She also was a major supporter of art, science, and the novel technology of printing, gathering many highly educated women at her court, which was unique in its time. Led by Katharina Bäuml, the Berlin-based ensemble Capella de la Torre explores Anne’s fascinating life story in music of her era.
