Carolin Widmann and Alexander Lonquich, first heard as a duo at the Pierre Boulez Saal in 2019, return to perform a program of French and German works. Beloved Romantic sonatas by Fauré and the young Richard Strauss are complemented by Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s 1951 solo work. The two artists open their concert with the Fantaisie by 25-year-old Olivier Messiaen. Long believed to have been lost, the piece was written in 1933 for the composer’s first wife, violinist Claire Delbos.
