Within just a few years, the Berlin-based Leonkoro Quartet, founded in 2019, has established itself as one of the leading young chamber music ensembles, winning over audiences at the Pierre Boulez Saal and elsewhere with its lively stage presence and musical maturity. The four musicians’ latest program once again reflects this youthful spirit, combining the stylistic variety of Erwin Schulhoff’s Five Pieces of 1923 with the A-minor Quartet by 18-year-old Felix Mendelssohn. The concert opens with one of Haydn’s Op. 20 quartets, a seminal work from the early years of the string quartet genre itself.
