Being a brilliant pianist himself, Dmitri Shostakovich liked to explore the possibilities of his instrument in ever different contexts. A few months after the 50th anniversary of the composer’s death, Elisabeth Leonskaja presents a program that highlights diverse aspects of his oeuvre for piano, including the second solo sonata, written in 1943. Mihály Berecz joins Leonskaja for the Concertino for Two Pianos, a piece Shostakovich often performed with his son. The program concludes with the moving G-minor Piano Quintet of 1940, for which Leonskaja partners with the Signum Quartett.
