For Kirill Petrenko, the Karajan-Akademie of the Berliner Philharmoniker is a matter close to his heart. In regular concerts, he passes on his passion, experience, and musical approach to the orchestra’s young talents. Now, Petrenko is working with the Akademie on Schubert’s Fourth Symphony, a piece by the then 19-year-old composer that brims with urgent drama and lyrical moments. The programme also features chamber music: Debussy’s only string quartet, Ibert’s lively and witty Trois Pièces brèves, and Ravel’s sensuous Introduction et Allegro for harp, flute, clarinet, and string quartet.
